Otherwise known as “The Highball Express” Aeromarine Airway’s began in 1920 delivering mail, as well as passengers between Key West and Havana Cuba. Having luxurious accommodations the sixty-minute flight compared to the eight-hour boat ride between the two harbor towns, was well worth the cost. Taking ‘dry” wealthy Americans to the “wet” Caribbean Islands during Prohibition is how the nickname “Highball Express” came about, the company was short-lived only flying from 1920 to 1924 before it went out of business.
