Tarpon Springs – Walk the historic sponge docks in Tarpon Springs and you’ll be reminded of the once-booming industry that was here not so long ago. Greek sponge divers settled in the area in the early 1900s making a living diving for the sponges found just offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. It is now known for its many Greek restaurants and gift shops that line the docks.
